How to Update Your Firestick

Check for Firestick software update

Settings > My Fire TV > About > Check for Updates. If an update is available, install it. Updates improve performance and fix bugs.

Auto-update apps

Settings > Applications > Appstore > Automatic Updates — turn on. This keeps your streaming apps updated automatically.

Manually update apps

Go to the App Store, find 'My Apps', and update individual apps. Some sideloaded apps need to be updated by reinstalling the new APK via Downloader.

Why updates matter for streaming

Outdated apps can have buffering bugs, compatibility issues, and security vulnerabilities. Keep everything updated for the best streaming experience.

If update fails

If an update will not install, check your internet connection, free up storage space, and try again. If it still fails, restart the Firestick and retry.
